President Andrés Manuel López Obrador estimates that will require an additional investment of 120 billion pesos for the construction of a liquefaction plant and another coking plant, which will accompany the Tehuantepec Isthmus Interoceanic Corridor project.

The president explained that in the works to optimize the operation of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec is building the infrastructure of the two new ports of Coatzacoalcos, or Puerto México, and Salina Cruz, “because they were abandoned.” Just as the railway track that runs the same route endswhich includes cargo, container and passenger trains.
“It is a challenge because we have little time and I want the project to be able to operate before the end of my mandate, and we have two years and three months left, of course we can do it in that time because progress has already been made, but you have to give the last push to leave this project operating“said the president.
He also explained that it should resolve the “right of way” issue to lay a gas pipeline from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, to Salina Cruz, Oaxaca, a task that was assigned to the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE).
Upon winning the gas contract, added the President, it will be possible to export the fuel to Asia from Salina Cruzwhere a liquefaction plant will be built.
“It is a plant that it freezes the gas to transport it and it is taken in 12, 15 hours to Asian countriesand there it is regasified with another plant, it becomes gas again and is introduced into the pipelines,” he said, adding that an investment of around 60 billion pesos is expected for the construction of this project that will generate more than 3 thousand jobs.
