Maru Campos announces "strong operation" in the Sierra Tarahumara after the murder of 2 Jesuit priests

The Governor of Chihuahua, Maru Campos, condemned the events that occurred in Cerocahui, Chihuahuawhere two Jesuit priests and a civilian were killed inside a church.

In a brief press conference, the state president indicated that in the work to clarify the facts, the state authorities will work together with the federal ones and indicated that an operation has been deployed in the area where the events occurred, corresponding to the Sierra Tarahumara.

“It has been deployed a strong joint operation to secure the area and protect citizens from violence“, said Campos, who asserted that he is in constant contact with the Ministry of National Defense, the Navy, the Ministry of Public Security, as well as with the Interior.

Although she did not report how far the investigations into the events that occurred on June 20 in Cerocahui have advanced, the governor asserted that the unfortunate events will reach the final consequences.

“Regaining peace in our Sierra Tarahumara will be our way of honoring his memory,” said the official, who recognized the historical debt that exists with the peoples.

The Jesuits of Mexico denounced this Tuesday the murder of Javier Campos Morales and Joaquin Cesar Mora SalazarJesuit priests of the community.

The religious order noted that the priests, aged 79 and 81,were attacked by armed individuals. The Jesuits demanded that all protective measures be taken immediately to safeguard the lives of the brothers, nuns, laity and the entire community of Cerocahui.

“Every day men and women are arbitrarily deprived of lifeas today our brothers were assassinated”, they denounced.
