AMLO expropriates land for the Mayan Train and authorizes its immediate temporary occupation

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador decreed the expropriation of eight properties in the municipalities of Tulum and Solidaridad, Quintana Roo, for the construction of the Mayan Train and authorized its “immediate temporary occupation.”

In a decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation, the “public utility” of the land and the need to use it immediately to “avoid unnecessary economic losses to the treasury” are argued.

The document establishes that the Secretariat of Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development must proceed to payment of compensation to whom it corresponds.

These are eight properties that cover 165 thousand 250 square meters. It should be noted that these lands were part of a larger expropriation that was published since July 12.

According to the decree, its “immediate temporary occupation” since the address of the owners is not known to notify them of the decision and the appraisal, which is corrected with a second publication in the Official Gazette. This is what the law says:

The owners and legitimate interested parties of the assets and rights that could be affected will be personally notified of the respective decree, as well as of the appraisal in which the amount of compensation is set.

…. In the event that it is not possible to notify it personally, because it is unknown who the persons are or their address or location, a second publication in the Official Gazette of the Federation will have the same effects…
