Hearings of the controversy panel on automotive rules in the T-MEC begin

The goal of panel is to determine whether the interpretation and application by the United States of the provisions of Chapter 4, relative to the rules of origin, and of the Uniform Regulations of the T-MEC are correct.

The Mexican authorities consider that the various provisions of the Appendix to Annex 4-B of the T-MEC, related to the automotive industry, “grant automobile producers different methodologies that allow them to consider parts and components non-originating in the calculation of the VCR, and thereby ensure that the vehicle is considered originating for purposes of obtaining the tariff benefits of the Treaty”.
