The British authorities warned that about 700 migrants crossed the English Channel in a single day, a record number since the beginning of the year.
The country’s Ministry of Defense indicated that on Monday 696 migrants crossed the Canal in at least 15 boats, putting his life in danger. The groups of migrants, including minors, arrived at the Kent County port, the closest to the French coast.
This crossing occurs after the Government confirmed that the number of migrants who have passed through the area in the month of July is the highest to datewith a total of 3 thousand 683 people and 90 boats.
The authorities have put on the table a tightening of lawss with increased penalties for those who enter the UK illegally, who could face up to four years in prison. On the other hand, those accused of human trafficking could be sentenced to life in prison for organizing the crossings.
Three months ago, London announced that migrants who arrive in the country illegally will be deported to Rwanda within the framework of an agreement with the African country.
So far, more than 17,000 people have crossed the area in small boats since January 2022.
