CFE and Sheinbaum respond to AMLO's call for help to rescue miners trapped in Coahuila


After López Obrador instructed the heads of Conagua, Pemex and CFE to send water pumps to the Agujita mine, in Coahuila, to support the rescue of miners, the Federal Electricity Commission and the Government of the City of Mexico heeded the request.

The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) made available to the National Civil Protection Coordination (PC) the necessary equipment and personnel to provide support in the rescue efforts of the 10 miners who remain trapped in a collapsed mine in the community of Agujita.

The CFE, reported through a statement, installed an 80 kilovolt emergency plant and a lighting tower to support night workas well as in the control and support center for family members, in coordination with Laura Velázquez Alzúa, National Coordinator of Civil Protection.

CFE agreed with the national and municipal PC authorities, Sedena and the miners’ coordinator, to start the work of drilling holes to pump water from other locations in the mine polygon and reduce the flow of water.

For her part, the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured through his social networks that he has already sent support to Coahulia, in aid of miners trapped in the coal mine. In his message he detailed thatis coordinating actions with the Water System and in contact with General Agustín Radilla, Undersecretary of Sedena for support.

A total of 10 miners remain trapped inside from the well of coal located in the community Las Agujitas, in the municipality of Sabinas, Coahuila. The incident occurred on August 3.

According to information from Laura Velázquez Alzúa, national coordinator of Civil Protection, Five miners who managed to get out suffered injuries and two of them have already been discharged after being treated at an IMSS clinic.

During the morning press conference on August 4, Velázquez Alzúa explained that the accident occurred when the workers, during excavation activities, ran into an adjoining area filled with water that collapsed causing a flood.

In the place, he added, there was also the flooding of three wells, which were connected by tunnels.
