“I saw flames on the stage, on the right side. I think it was around the same time that the singer on stage also saw it and he yelled ‘fire!’“, he told the broadcaster PPTV. “I saw a lot of the pub bouncers covered in fire from the inside.”
The incident occurs 13 years after pyrotechnics started a fire at a New Year’s party at the busy Santika nightclub in Bangkok, killing 66 people.
Investigations into that fire found several key breaches at the club, official corruption, and revealed lax attitudes towards safety in entertainment venues at the time.
Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha assured Friday the families of the victims who would receive help from the authorities and urged entertainment venues across the country to ensure they have proper emergency exits and security measures.
