The next US Government security aid package for Ukraine it would be about a billion dollarsone of the largest so far, and would include ammunition for long-range weapons and blind medical transport vehicles, revealed this Friday to Reuters three sources informed on the matter.
The package is expected to be officially announced next Monday and would be added to the nearly 8.8 billion dollars of aid that the United States has already given to Ukraine since the Russian invasion that began on February 24 of this year.
The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that President Joe Biden had not yet signed the next weapons packageso it may change in value and content before enactment.
However, if signed in its current form, it would be valued at $1 billion and would include ammunition for HIMARS missile launchersammunition for the NASAMS surface-to-air missile system and up to 50 M113 armored medical transports.
The new package builds on the Pentagon’s recent decision to allow Ukrainians receive medical treatment at a US military hospital in Germanynear Ramstein Air Base.
Last Monday, the Pentagon had announced another security aid package for Ukraine worth up to $550 million, which included additional ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS).
The White House declined to comment on the package.
Until this August 5, The United States has sent 16 HIMARS to Ukraine and on July 1, it committed to sending two Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS). (rts)
