Sonora Grill owners seek political meeting… there are no longer 'deals in the dark,' says Sheinbaum

Representatives of the Sonora Grill restaurant insist on scheduling interviews with officials from the capital’s government to “fix” the political issue derived from the complaints of discrimination, said the head of the capital’s government, Claudia Sheinbaum.

At a press conference, he read a report sent to him by Geraldina González, head of the Council to Prevent and Eliminate Discrimination in Mexico City:

“Around 3:30 in the afternoon, two people who identified themselves as legal representatives of Sonora Grill appeared at the Council’s facilities, requesting a meeting with the head of the Council. They mentioned that ‘el grande’ wanted to meet to talk about the political issue before the legal one“.

Geraldina González responded that the problem had nothing to do with politics, but with a matter of racism.

“It has nothing to do with politics. The Sonora Grill has to respond to the protocol that exists,” said the head of government.

On Tuesday, August 9, the Council received a call to insist on scheduling a meeting between the owner of the restaurant and Geraldina González, arguing that the establishment and its waiters were being attacked because of COPRED.

“It was insisted that it was not possible to have a meeting outside the attention procedure, that it is a formal administrative procedure and that once the agreements were generated, a meeting could be scheduled, but always from the legal guidelines,” said Sheinbaum.

As the request was unsuccessful, the representatives requested a call with the head of COPRED, but the staff refused.

The agreements in the dark no longer exist in the government of the City. If they were used to it, then it’s over,” Sheinbaum added.

The Head of Government of CDMX insisted that it is a legal legal process that is perfectly defined and that the members of the Sonora Grill have to collaborate. “In any case, the procedure will continue.“, he declared.

Lastly, Sheinbaum invited the population to denounce before the COPRED the establishments in which they consider that there is discrimination.
