At least five people died and 16 more were injured this Sunday in the Cristo del Consuelo neighborhood of the city of Guayaquil, in Ecuador, in a fact that the authorities describe as an attack.
The explosion occurred early this Sunday at the intersection of Tenth Street and H, according to the National Risk Service, which has confirmed the number of victims, as well as eight homes destroyed.
Until 11:00 a.m., the Guayaquil Fire Department continued to search for missing persons among the rubble of the eight houses that were affected by the explosion. Two vehicles have been equally affected.
The Ministry of the Interior has offered a reward of 10,000 dollars to the person who delivers information about the alleged perpetrators of the attack.
The attack would have been carried out with an explosive device and would be the work of “organized crime mercenaries”, according to the Minister of the Interior, Patricio Carrillo.
“It is a declaration of war on the State. Either we unite to face it or the price will be even higher for society,” Carrillo said.
Meanwhile, the Ecuadorian Prosecutor’s Office has announced the opening of an investigation in which it will provide its full support to the National Police.
