Who is Leticia Ramírez, the new head of the SEP?


Leticia Ramírez Amaya will be the new Secretary of Public Education (SEP) replacing Delfina Gomez Alvarez.

The news was announced by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador himself, who said he was happy with the entry of Ramírez Amaya to the SEP. The president asserted that the new Secretary of Education is an “honest” person whom he has known for almost 30 years.

Ramirez was citizen services coordinator when Andrés Manuel López Obrador was head of government of the then Federal District. He started in the position in 2006 and held it until 2012.

Later, from 2012 to 2018 it was advisor to the Ministry of the Environment From Mexico City.

She obtained a degree from the Meritorious National School of Teachers (BENM) in 1984 as a teacher of Primary Education and has a truncated degree in Social Anthropology.

Likewise, She worked as a classroom teacher for a period of 12 years, as reported by President López Obrador during the morning press conference at the National Palace.

It is currently director of the office of Citizen Services of the federal government, position he has held since December 2018.

This Monday, the president López Obrador announced during the morning that Ramírez will be the new Secretary of Education, replacing Delfina Gómez.

“They are people of absolute trust, prepared, honest, just like the teacher Delfina,” said the president.

For its part, delphine gomez leaves office to be the Morena’s candidate for the government of the State of Mexico.
