FIFA summoned to testify Byron Castillo, who is designated by Chili as a player ineligible to represent Ecuador in the South American qualifiers for the Qatar World Cup 2022.

The international organization rejected in the first instance the claim of the Chilean National Association of Professional Soccer (ANFP) about what Castle was born in Tumaco, Colombia, in 1995, and not in the Ecuadorian city of General Villamil Playas, in 1998, as stated in their official documents.

Eduardo Carlezzo, attorney representing the ANFP, pointed out in an email from the entity sent to Reuters.

We thank FIFA for this clarity around our appeal hearing and for calling on Byron Castillo to answer the many questions they must have regarding their eligibility and therefore Ecuador’s qualification.

We have provided a significant amount of evidence to FIFA showing that the player was born in Colombia and that his Ecuadorian birth certificate is false. Finally, on September 15, Byron Castillo has the opportunity to explain the situation and then, in the interests of fair play, justice can take its course.

Castle, who plays for Leon in Liga MX, had participation in 8 of Ecuador’s 18 qualifying matches for the World Cup in Qatar and, Chili, Among other points, it asks that determine as lost the encounters played by the midfielder.
