Morena’s bench and its allies from the Labor Party (PT) and the Green Ecologist of Mexico (PVEM) approved this Friday night in the Chamber of Deputies discuss via ‘fast track’ the proposal presented by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador that allows the delivery of the National Guard to the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena).
The coordinator of deputies of Morena in the Chamber of Deputies, Ignacio Mier Velazco, presented the initiative by which various provisions are reformed, added and repealed of the Organic Law of the Federal Public Administration and the Law of the National Guard.
Mier Velazco specified that this initiative “they do not reform the original spirit of the constituent that approved in March 2019 the creation of the National Guard.”
The morenista asked the recently appointed president of the Board of Directors, Santiago Creel, to the initiative sent by López Obrador is “of urgent resolution” and is submitted to the plenary session in San Lázaro.
The vote was immediately held by a show of hands and the Morenista, PT and Green Party deputies voted in favor. Until 9:00 p.m. this Friday, legislators were still discussing the initiative.
Citizen Movement files amparo to suspend the legislative process
Previously, the coordinator of the Parliamentary Group of Citizen Movement, Jorge Álvarez Maynez, warned that Morena was seeking to illegally approve the initiative of the National Guard, for which he filed an injunction before the Judiciary to suspend the legislative process and prevent the Sedena assumes full operational, financial and administrative control of the National Guard.
“We filed an amparo to stop this illegal attempt by Morena to approve an initiative that does not have a constitutionally valid purpose. We are asking the Judiciary to act to stop this violation of the Constitution”, he asserted in statements to the media.
The parliamentary leader also denounced that the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) determined a route of “legislative raid”, in which Morena will present the initiative in today’s session and all the procedures will be dispensed with, and without being analyzed and ruled. in commissions, it will be voted and endorsed.
“I have systematically denounced how the Jucopo acts, in fact, we are going to ask that they change the name of the Chamber and call it the Honorable Office of the Parties of the Union, because the level of servility is incredible,” he stressed.
Likewise, he questioned what part of this initiative is important to be approved or what will change in the current insecurity situation in the country if the initiative is endorsed this Friday; “There is not a single modification that impacts the lives of Mexicans.”
Therefore, Álvarez Maynez insisted that this proposal must first be analyzed in the commissions, because the issue of public security requires a deep and broad debate, since the National Guard is a “profound failure.”
