Atresmedia TV has launched the first promotional images and a first trailer about his new television series: ‘Cristo y Rey’. These images have been shown during the FesTVal de Vitoria, where attendees have been able to see the first brushstrokes of the next Antena 3 series. This first trailer offers very explicit images and shows that the television network is going to tell us the story of the couple without mincing words.
Created by Daniel Écija (known for ‘Family Doctor’ or ‘Águila Roja’, among others) this new series will base its plot on the love relationship between Bárbara Rey, Spanish actress and uncovering muse, and Ángel Cristo, known as the best world tamer. This biopic will go through the most mediatic years of the well-known couple.
The protagonists are Belén Cuesta (‘Paquita Salas) and Jaime Lorente (‘The paper house’) who will give life to Bárbara Rey and Ángel Cristo. The cast is joined by other actors and actresses such as Adriana Torrebejano, Cristobal Suárez, Artur Busquets, José Milán, Chema Adeva, Belén Ponce de León, Vicente Vergara, Diana Peñalver, Salomé Jiménez, David Lorente and Secun de la Rosa, among others.
The series is a production of Atresmedia TV in collaboration with Good Mood, audiovisual production company created by Daniel Écija. In addition, Écija forms the executive production team together with Montse García, director of fiction at Atresmedia.
‘Cristo y Rey’ does not yet have a release date, but Antena 3 has already confirmed that will be able to be seen soon in the prime time schedule of the chain. In addition, the series will also be available on its exclusive content platform ATRESplayer PREMIUM.
The rise of biopics
It is not the first time that a platform has given us a biopic about well-known stars of our television. After the success of the acclaimed series ‘Veneno’, based on the life of Cristina Ortiz, alias La Veneno, a well-known transgender actress and celebrity, Antena 3 is encouraged to continue with the biopics, this time with the well-known couple Bárbara Rey and Ángel Christ.
But Antena 3 is not the only one that dares with this genre. The streaming service Starzplay will premiere this fall a biopic about the life of the well-known Spanish porn actor Nacho Vidal, which will be called ‘Nacho, a XXX-L industry’. The biopic phenomenon seems unstoppable, and television networks and platforms will not hesitate to jump on this train and take advantage of the pull of this genre.
