The great night of television (and streaming) has arrived with the 74th Emmy Awards. After two years marked by Covid-19, the ceremony returns to normal, with a fully face-to-face gala and with an audience, in which the best series and miniseries of the year will be recognized in style.
Once again, 2022 has continued to raise the bar with its television fiction, with streaming eating more and more ground on traditional television, the rise of the event series and great streaming phenomena such as the already consolidated ‘Stranger Things’ or the bombshell from ‘The Squid Game’. The competition is strong this year in both drama and comedy. The most nominated series is ‘Succession’, which with 25 nominations has all the ballots to sweep.
It is followed by ‘Ted Lasso’ and ‘The White Lotus’ with 20 nominations each, and the revelation comedies ‘Hacks’ and ‘Only murders in the building’, with 17. Close behind is ‘Euphoria’, which with its second season It has established itself as one of the most influential and successful series in the history of HBO and accumulates 16 mentions. They could also give the occasional surprise ‘Ozark’ and ‘Better Call Saul’, which have finished this year, or the newcomer ‘Abbott School’.
As a prelude to the main prizes, The Creative Emmys were held last weekend., pre-delivery divided into two nights in which technical and artistic awards were given and prizes were awarded in the categories of non-fiction and guest actors. That first phase of the 74th Emmy Awards already left several series ahead of the final calculation of this edition, with ‘Stranger Things’, ‘Euphoria’ and ‘The White Lotus’ in the lead with five awards each and ‘The game of the squid’ and ‘Arcane’ behind, with four. We will see if they will manage to continue adding or will be overshadowed by other titles on the main night of the awards.
The 2022 Emmy ceremony is held as usual in Los Angeles and is broadcast live on the NBC network (in Spain, through Movistar Plus+), counting this year with actor and comedian Kenan Thompson as host. Without further delay, we leave you with the winners.
