Olivia Wilde Dismisses 'Spitgate' and Other 'Don't Worry Darling' Drama With Stephen Colbert (Video)

“Don’t Worry Darling,” perhaps the most talked-about movie of 2022, is finally coming to theaters.

The Olivia Wilde-directed thriller, which stars Florence Pugh and Harry Styles, has captivated audience’s attention before its nationwide release, first with Pugh’s decision to limit promotional press for the film and most recently with #spitgate.

If you’re curious to see the flick behind all the drama, here’s how to watch “Don’t Worry Darling” when it comes out.

When does “Don’t Worry Darling” come out?

“Don’t Worry Darling” opens on Sept. 23.

Is “Don’t Worry Darling” streaming or in theaters?

When it’s first released, “Don’t Worry Darling” will be playing exclusively in theaters, so it’s not streaming just yet. While previous Warner Bros. new releases were streaming on HBO Max 45 days after they first hit theaters, that timeline shifted starting with “Elvis,” which wasn’t streaming on HBO Max until 70 days after its theatrical release.

All of this to say, “Don’t Worry Darling” will eventually be streaming on HBO Max, but not until Nov. 7 at the earliest, and likely not until closer to December. Before that, it will be available to rent On Demand at a future date.

What is “Don’t Worry Darling” about?

In the idyllic society of Victory, nuzzled in the California desert, 1950s society functions at its finest: wives send off their husbands to work in the mornings, perform their domestic duties and the community comes together for lavish parties when the work day is over. This utopian community is working exactly as it should be — until Alice grows suspicious of strange occurrences, like the fact that several couples have identical stories of how they met. Despite requests from her husband, Jack, Alice is persistent to crack the dark secret that holds the society together.

Who is in the “Don’t Worry Darling” cast?

Pugh and Styles co-star as married couple Alice and Jack Chambers, respectively, alongside Olivia Wilde, who plays Bunny, Gemma Chan, who plays Shelley, and Chris Pine, who plays Frank. Other notable cast members include Nick Kroll, KiKi Layne, Kate Berlant and Timothy Simons.

What’s the deal with all the controversy?

Wilde’s second feature film as a director has been wrought with drama since 2020, when Harry Styles replaced Shia LaBeouf as leading man, Jack, and Wilde and Styles began dating somewhere between his casting and when production ended. When Pugh began to limit her promotional press for the movie in Aug. 2022, there was immediate speculation of a feud between Wilde and Pugh, though the source of the alleged tension remains unknown.

Naturally, when the main cast made an appearance together at the Venice Film Festival in Sept. 2022, speculation soared with eyes glued to the interactions between Wilde and Pugh, Styles and Pugh, Styles and Pine and just about every other combination you can imagine.
