Senator Ricardo Monreal said that he is in contact with all the parliamentary groups and said he was confident that before October 5 a solution will be achieved to carry out the reform that proposes to increase the period in which the Armed Forces can participate in security tasks public.
In an event in the Senate of the Republic, he recognized that Morena did not have the votes to achieve the reform; he said that he needed 10 votes, which could only come from the opposition.
He said that there are now two opportunities: to approve the same opinion again and put it to a vote, or to work on a new proposal. He said that he prefers to work on a new opinion and that a consensus be achieved.
He assured that the proposal does not mean a militarization process but the opportunity to build and strengthen a National Guard.
He assured that if the reform is not achieved, in March 2024 the Armed Forces would lose the constitutional coverage to carry out public security work.
Monreal said that a Morena-PRI agreement is not being sought, but rather one that represents all the political forces.
It was hoped that before October 5 a solution would be reached to carry out the opinion that proposes to increase the term in which the Armed Forces can participate in public security tasks.
