The government of Ukraine requested this Saturday an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the holding of a referendum in the Ukrainian territories occupied by Russian troops.
The spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Oleg Nikolenko, requested that an urgent meeting be created to discuss “Russia’s bogus referendums in the occupied territories of Ukraine”.
“Russia must be held accountable for its further attempts to change borders internationally recognized Ukraine in violation of the UN Charter,” he insisted in a message posted on his Twitter social network account.
The pro-Russian authorities are holding referendums from this Friday to Tuesday in the occupied areas of Kherson, Zaporizhia, Donetsk and Lugansk, with the aim of these regions joining the Russian Federation.
“Given the preliminary results of the referendums and Russia’s willingness to recognize the results, it is most likely that the process for the entry of the territories (in the Russian Federation) takes place on September 30, ”explained a parliamentary source quoted by the news agency TASS.
Russian President Vladimir Putin himself could participate in the procedure. “I don’t know if she will participate, but most likely she will,” she added. (Europe Press)
