The Swedish Coast Guard discovered this Thursday a new gas leak in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, bringing the total number of leaks to four, as reported by Channel 4 of Swedish television.
“Another gas leak has been discovered in the Baltic Sea, confirms the Coast Guard. This means that a total of four leaks have been found in Nord Stream 1 and 2″, detailed the aforementioned chain during a live broadcast.
Two of the leaks in the Nord Stream have taken place in the area of the Baltic Sea belonging to Denmark, and another two in the area belonging to Sweden.
The Swedish Police intelligence unit (SÄPO) took over the investigation of the gas leaks and does not rule out the possibility that “a foreign power is behind” of the alleged sabotage.
During the day on Tuesday, Denmark, Poland, the United States and Norway expressed suspicions about the fact that the pipeline leaks are the result of acts of sabotage. Swedish seismologists have gone further and confirmed explosions in the area hours before the leaks were confirmed.
Nord Stream’s operator, Nord Stream AG, said Tuesday that the damage suffered in the ducts late on Monday “is unprecedented”after a gas leak in one of the sections of Nord Stream 2 and a loss of pressure in Nord Stream 1, without the causes being known for now.
This Thursday, Russia insisted on the need to carry out an investigation into the circumstances of the leaks in the Russian gas pipelines Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, while hinted that the United States benefits from the leak.
“Perhaps, they will have a better view from the top of the Capitol.. But if that is the case, they must also have seen the activities of US warships at the very site of the Russian infrastructure disruption the day before. Or they noticed drones and helicopters flying over there,” said Anatoly Antonov, the Russian ambassador to the United States.
Russia recalled the alleged promises of the tenant of the White House, Joe Biden, of “end” the Nord Stream 2 project, something that in the eyes of the Government of Germany could happen, since during the day on Wednesday it pointed out that it would not be possible to resume said gas pipelines.
