Muriatic acid leak reported in Iztapalapa;  100 people evicted

The Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of Mexico City reported a muriatic acid leakin the Iztapalapa mayor’s office, which caused the eviction of 100 people.

The incident occurred this Saturday night at the intersection of Estrella and Planeta streets, in the El Rodeo neighborhood.

A team of firefighters moved to the scene to control the escape of a pipe with a capacity of 26 thousand liters using foam to remove the substance.

Through Twitter, the agency indicated that en coordination with the Secretariat of Citizen Security a security cordon is maintained, and support was requested from the Mayor’s Office with bundles of lime, baking soda and sand to contain the spill.

Shortly after, the Secretariat for Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protectionlocal i reported that the acid leak had already been controlled.

No injured people are reported.

People evicted returned to their homes, since there is no risk to the population.

The pipe and the container will be placed under protection, ”explained the capital agency.
