Dust storm surprises Mexicali

The city of Mexicali, Baja California, experienced an afternoon with a dust storm and rain, for which a Civil Protection operation was activated.

Mayor Norma Bustamante reported that the storm was untimely, but that it is not necessary to suspend activities.

The storm did not cause catastrophic damage, only the downing of trees, poles and a fence on the campus of the University of Durango.

The newspaper Chronicle reported two injured people: a woman with leg injuries and a man with a broken arm, in both cases due to falling trees.

The CFE reported that the fall of poles left 116,000 users without power.
