Pedro Castillo is dismissed by the Peruvian Congress

The plenary session of the Peruvian Congress dismissed the country’s president, Pedro Castillo, on Wednesday for “permanent moral incapacity” with 101 of 130 votes in favor.

The decision is made after he announced the dissolution of the Legislature and declared a government of emergency exception, which was described as a coup by different voices, including the vice president.

By constitutional succession, it corresponds to the Vice President Dina Boluarte assume the head of state.

Boluarte spoke on Twitter after the announcement made by Castillo. There he accused a coup that aggravates the political and institutional crisis.

I reject the decision of Pedro Castillo of perpetrating the breakdown of the constitutional order with the closure of Congress”, he wrote.
