Among the many 2022 releases, there are a few movies that have been several notches above the rest when it comes to reception. This is the case of ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, sequel ‘Top Gun. Rotten Tomatoes, US film and television review website, has announced that ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ is the winner of the 2022 Golden Tomato Award, that is, it is the best valued film of the year. With 459 opinions from specialized critics, ‘Top Gun 2’ has a score of 96 out of 100. The general public has also been able to vote on the web and, after more than 50,000 reviews, the result has been even higher, reaching the almost perfect score of 99 out of 100.
‘Maverick’ has achieved something that is not easy to do, it is about pleasing professional critics and the general public alike. There are many cases of films that are adored by critics but are not very well received by the public and vice versa. The feat led by Tom Cruise results in a A total box office success, ‘Top Gun 2’ has grossed almost a billion and a half dollars globally. It ended 2022 as the highest-grossing film released that year, but at the beginning of 2023 ‘Avatar: The Sense of Water’ snatched the title from it.
