The Chilean Minister of the Interior, Carolina Toha, announced this Saturday that her country asked for help from Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay and Spain to contain the wave of forest fires.

During a press conference, Minister Carolina Toha assured that a request for international support was made and contacted different governments.

These requests include searches for ships to reinforce the fleet and brigades that can reform the work on the ground.

Similarly, Chilean President Gabriel Boric also announced through social networks that asked for the support of other countries and thanked his Argentine counterpart, Alberto Fernández, for the quick response.

How many active fires are there in Chile?

According to the latest report from the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred) of the Ministry of the Interior, there are currently 251 active fires across the countryof which 80 are in combat.

The fires coincide with a long drought that has lasted for more than 13 years and with an unprecedented heat wave in the south, With temperatures that can reach 40 degrees Celsius in the next few hours in southern areas.
