Earthquake of magnitude 5.6 is registered in the Honduran Caribbean without causing damage


A earthquake of magnitude 5.6 on the Richter scale was recorded this Wednesday in the Caribbean of Honduras without causing damage of any kind, reported the state Permanent Contingency Commission (Copeco).

According to Copeco’s preliminary report, the earthquake was registered at 09:54 local timeat a depth of 15 kilometers, at coordinates 16.2 degrees North and 84.6 West, and 161 kilometers northeast of the port city of Trujillo, department of Colón.

The civil protection agency also indicated that, according to reports from the Fire Department of regions of the departments of Colón. “Thank God, Atlántida and Islas de la Bahía, all in the Caribbean, no damage was reported.”

On February 8, an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 on the Richter scale was recorded at a depth of 14 kilometers, north of the department of Islas de la Bahía, which makes up the islands of Roatán, Utila and Guanaja, between coordinates 16.7. degrees North and 86.1 degrees West, no damage of any kind.

A second telluric movement occurred that day, measuring 4.1 degrees, at a depth of 7 kilometers, in the same sector.
