It was the actor Alexander Dreymon, who has played Uhtred since the beginning of the series, who shared the news of this project: “It has been an enormous privilege to be able to tell the story of Uhtred for five seasons. This will be an epic ending to an extraordinary journey.”

Netflix has confirmed that the release date of ‘The Last Kingdom’ movie, ‘Seven Kings Must Die’, will be on April 14, 2023.
‘The Last Kingdom’, the movie: synopsis
‘The Last Kingdom’ began its brilliant path on the BBC Two channel, in 2015, before making the leap to Netflix, for its third season, in 2018. Based on Bernard Cornwell’s novels, this series takes us to 11th century England, a time of warfare between the Danish Vikings and the English. Despite the unstoppable advance of the Vikings, the Kingdom of Wessex remained standing, the last of the seven kingdoms (as in ‘Game of Thrones’!), led by King Alfred the Great. There lives Uhtred, a Saxon adopted by the Danes who now has an internal conflict over which people he owes his allegiance to.
In ‘Seven Kings Must Die’, we will follow the story of Uhtred in new epic battles for power. After successfully retaking his ancestral home of Bebbanburg, and in order for Uhtred to keep the peace, the Saxon-Dane vowed to remain independent of any war between King Constantine of Alba and King Edward of Wessex. But an independent Bebbanburg means that Edward’s dream of a unified England remains in doubt. So will another king of Wessex go against his word and betray Uhtred? All Uhtred dreams of is living out his days in Bebbanburg in peace, but fate may have ulterior motives, and once again Uhtred will be at the center of shaping England’s future..
