He President Andrés Manuel López Obrador stated that the former Secretary of Communications and Transportation, Javier Jimenez Espriu, left office because he was against ports and customs being in charge of armed forces.
“He told me I don’t agree with this because I feel that it is militarize to the country,” he declared this Wednesday morning.
He also argued that more is being done in Mexico than in USA to control traffic fentanyl.
“The United States legislators, the United States authorities, are not doing their job because they are not addressing the causes,” he accused.
The president recalled that the ports were previously in charge of the Ministry of Communications. However, he reiterated that it was decided that the Navy should control them “to bring order, prevent smuggling, the entry of drugs, since some were” practically taken over by crime.
AMLO maintained that it was “very important that this change be made.” He also stated that the measure has been successful.
“In the time we have been carrying 6 tons, they have been confiscated. [de fentanilo]as never before”.
“We have been able to seize a lot of drugs in the ports. Even in the maritime customs and in the land customs, revenues have increased, ”he stressed.
