AMLO will not subsidize Tesla for battery plants

After, during a telephone conversation, Elon Musk will express to President Andrés Manuel López Obrador his desire to install car battery plants in Mexico, the president explained that he will not grant federal subsidies for this purpose to the US company.

“He also wants to put battery plants,” he declared on Tuesday during the morning press conference in National Palace.

He specified that USA grants subsidies to companies in the clean, electric car and semiconductor related industries, providing them with a 50% of what the company invests.

“Billions of dollars are invested, the government gives 500 million as a lost fund and the government is not left as a partner, it is a stimulus,” he explained.

Given this, he explained that Elon Musk offered the Mexican workforce, which he described as “the best.”
