There is less left to make the most anticipated trip of this summer. On July 21 we head to Barbie Land with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling to experience what is taking shape as one of the great cinematographic events of the year: ‘Barbie’, the film about the iconic Mattel Greta Gerwig doll. After her previous teasers broke the internet, The first trailer itself arrives, in which something more about the plot is finally revealed.
The official synopsis of ‘Barbie’ reads like this: “Living in Barbie Land is about being a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a total existential crisis. Or you are a Ken.” Until now, the great promotional campaign for the film co-written between Gerwig and Noah Baumbach has been based on highlighting the many qualities and facets of Barbies as opposed to Kens, which are just that: Kens. And that seems to be the general tone of the film.
In it, Gosling gives life to Barbie’s boyfriend (Robbie), but they are not the only dolls in Barbie Land, which is inhabited by many different versions of Barbie (reflecting the eclectic professions the doll has had over the decades) and many of Ken’s (reflecting basically nothing). The huge, all-star cast of ‘Barbie’ includes, among others, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Emma Mackey, Hari Nef, Alexandra Shipp, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Scott Evans, Connor Swindells, Sharon Rooney, Nicola Coughlan, America Ferrera, Michael Cera, Will Ferrell, Dua Lipa, John Cena and Helen Mirren as the narrator.
Disc of the year is coming
And it seems that, in addition to making the film one of the great events of the summer, there is also a clear intention that its soundtrack will become one of the albums of the year. The launch of ‘Barbie The Album’ will be an event in itselfand will come loaded with original themes to accompany the Greta Gerwig film.
Rolling Stone has exclusively announced the first names that will be part of the musical compilation, which will go on sale on July 21, the same day it is released in theaters. The album will count, as previously announced, with Dua Lipa as performer of the theme song, ‘Dance the Night’, which is played for the first time in the trailer. And not only that, the popular Anglo-Albanian singer also plays Mermaid Barbie in the film, with John Cena as her merman.
