Lucasfilm announces that Gina Carano will not appear as Cara Dune in season 3 of The Mandalorian. Here are the social media posts that got her fired.
Gina Carano has been removed from The mandalorian and Lucasfilm as a whole following a series of despicable posts on social media. Carano initially made a name for herself as a mixed martial artist, but then pursued a career in entertainment in the late 2000s and throughout the 2010s, appearing in films such as Fast and Furious 6 Y dead Pool. However, she recently had great success playing the rebel soldier Cara Dune in The mandalorian.
Carano first appeared as Dune in The mandalorian season 1 and reprized his role in season 2, even appearing in a major sequence in the finale in which Luke Skywalker made a cameo appearance. Given the character’s association with the titular hero, Dune would logically have played an integral role in all future seasons of The mandalorian, but that is no longer the case. On February 10, Lucasfilm announced that Carano would not be part of any future projects at the studio, implying that she had been fired. The mandalorian – or at least his contract wasn’t renewed for season 3 and beyond.

Carano made multiple posts on social media on February 9, deleting them at some point that night or the next day; one of them claims that Jeffrey Epstein did not commit suicide (the post still stands) and another equates the persecution of Jews by the Nazis with the way Republicans are treated in the United States. The latest of which came shortly after Carano publicly endorsed former President Donald Trump’s efforts to reverse the 2020 presidential election.
Carano has frequently broadcast disparaging political comments on social media, especially Twitter, saying that the United States has a “left-wing extremism” problem and not a systemic racism problem; that Republicans are more likely to be targeted for their political beliefs than minorities for the color of their skin. In addition, Carano has also mocked people who wear masks in California due to the COVID-19 pandemic, in which more than 470,000 Americans have died.
Although many of Carano’s posts were not reviewed by Lucasfilm in recent months, his latest social media posts hit a nerve. Carano’s posts, especially the comments on the Holocaust, were abhorrent, and Lucasfilm finally caught on, so they quickly removed her from their treasured series and made an official statement on the matter, rather than letting the anger in the social networks continue to grow without action.
Carano was pulled from Lucasfilm two months after it was announced that the studio would be developing New Republic Rangers, a new series set during the events of The mandalorian. While Lucasfilm has kept specific details about the show near the chest, the fact that Cara Dune is a New Republic marshal, not to mention a major character in The mandalorian, suggested that he could have played a role in the spin-off. That, of course, will no longer happen, if it were an option, to begin with.
